Marko Arnautovic has told West Ham fans on Instagram not to believe what they read in the newspapers, hinting that he wants to stay at the London Stadium after speculation earlier this week linking him with a move away.
What did he say?
What was the situation?
Last week, the English press picked up on comments from Arnautovic and his brother Danijel (who is also his agent) that were reported by Austrian newspaper Kurier.
When asked about his future and a potential move to a bigger club, Arnautovic reportedly said: “I’m 29, so that’s the best age.
“It’s clear that I want to compete with the best players. But in this affair I totally trust my brother.”
In the article, Arnautovic’s brother also claimed that two clubs playing in the Champions League were interested in the 29-year-old’s signature during the summer and that a move was very close.
“He’s a big part of West Ham’s team but I think it’s possible to tease out more of him. For that to happen, he has to play for a top team. Marko is ready for the next step. A player like him should not play against relegation. He should play for the international spots,” said Danijel.
“Marko is really enjoying playing for West Ham. He loves that club and the fans. But there is still that feeling, that this cannot be the end. And everybody should understand that.”
Staying put
Despite this though, the Austrian forward has now seemingly told West Ham fans that there is no truth in the report from Kurier, or in the claims that he could join Manchester United.
Arnautovic has been on fire up front for the Hammers so far this season, scoring five goals and providing one assist in 11 appearances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, so it will certainly please the West Ham faithful to see that their main man is committed to the cause.
