da dobrowin: England will be without winger Adam Johnson for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, as the player has pulled out of the squad due to injury.

The speedy wideman has pulled up in training with a thigh strain, and as such has been sent back to Sunderland to undergo treatment, Sky Sports have published.

Johnson was seen as one of the attacking options on the flank for the home nation, but was unlikely to start the matches given the other players at the side’s disposal.

Johnson joins Andy Carroll in pulling out of the Three Lions’ squad, with Roy Hodgson yet to announce whether he will call up a replacement for the injured duo.

England take on Moldova on Friday night, before hosting Ukraine at Wembley on Tuesday.

Ashley Cole is also a major doubt for the away game on Friday, but should be back available for the second fixture next week.
