Leon Osman scored his second goal in consecutive games to secure Everton’s third win at Goodison Park this season and leave Swansea without a victory on the road since their promotion.

It was a deserved win for the Toffee’s who kept plugging away against the Swans who produced a similarly stubborn performance that earned them a share of the spoils against Newcastle on Saturday. They looked like securing another priceless point only for Osman to seal all three for Everton heading home Royston Drenthe’s cross on the hour mark to end Everton’s four game winless run. It will be a bitter pill for Brendan Rodgers’ side who felt they deserved a point after frustrating the home side for a vast majority of a game that won’t be remembered as a classic Premier League fixture. David Moyes, on the other hand, will be mightily relieved that his side managed to snatch victory and move six points above the relegation zone after their recent poor form saw them in range of being sucked into trouble.

He will have been happy with his players as they dominated a first half that lacked any sort of real entertainment with Louis Saha and Johnny Heitinga both wasting  head chances. When they did find a way through they were denied by Michael Vorm who has been Swansea’s hero on many an occasion this season. Magaye Gueye was denied by the flying Dutchman after he smashed Leighton Baines’ cutback towards goal before seeing his rebound blocked by Ashley Williams. The Toffee’s continued in a similar vein after the break with Osman tamely poking Phil Neville’s free kick towards goal after Royston Drenthe had curling a dead ball past the post from 20-yards.

The Goodison faithful could sense it was only a matter of when not if Everton would score and their appetite was satisfied on the hour with Osman getting on the end of Drenthe’s whipped corner to head the ball past Vorm. The Swans did have a chance to claim a point through Danny Graham but their leading scorer could only head the ball straight at Tim Howard after meeting Wayne Routledge’s deep cross leaving them just four points above the drop zone going into christmas.
