Arsene Wenger called it a season defining week and unfortunately for Arsenal fans the team has failed to deliver, crashing out of the FA Cup and seemingly facing an uphill battle in the second leg of the Champions League. The knives are out for the Gunners from the media and a lot of their ex-players are happy to rip into Wenger’s men and questioning their futures at the Emirates ahead of next season. They have the North London derby coming up next week and Arsene Wenger will be looking to pick up the heads of his team who look worryingly short of confidence at present.

This week we have seen a mixed bag of blogs that include; the perfect act of revenge on Barca; stick or twist at Arsenal, while Arsene Wenger takes a refreshing stance at the Emirates.

“It’s a gulf which is confirmed weekend after weekend and what is perhaps the most worrying thing is the club won’t do anything this summer to reverse the trend. They don’t want to go back to overspending in the transfer market, and I think they’re right. But for two seasons, the level of the team has only gone down.

“We shouldn’t hesitate to talk about the end of the cycle. Regardless of age, we have to look seriously at certain players. Right now. You have to send out a strong signal. You have to say to [Arshavin, and to Rosicky, ‘Gentlemen, thank you, but goodbye’. And soon” Petit speaking in the wake of Arsenal’s defeat in Milan
